Thank you for your interest in the Mercy Health Muskegon Emergency Medicine Residency
We are a PGY 1-4 program in Muskegon, Michigan. Initially we were accredited through the AOA but have also received our initial accreditation from the ACGME. Our inaugural class will graduated in 2018. Our clinical sites offer a wide variety of exposure from rural to inner-city populations. We emphasize opportunities to treat critically ill patients through multiple ICU rotations and time divided between two ED’s with a total ER census well over 100,000 annual visits.
Our residency program is strongly affiliated with Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine Statewide Campus System providing significant benefits associated with a nationally renowned university.
Our Mercy site provides ample exposure to highly acute medical, cardiovascular and renal pathology. Our Hackley site is a level Trauma II center and also where we see most of our pediatric and OB/Gyn population. Without surgical residencies to compete for exposure, our residents have the rare opportunity to be the only participating residents in Trauma cases. Clinical education is done directly with attendings who have been trained at a very wide variety of residencies and offer diverse educational insight and experiences.
Muskegon, Michigan is an economically diverse city along the shores of Lake Michigan and the area is a popular vacation destination with plenty of opportunity for culture and outdoor activities. It is 3 hours away from Detroit and Chicago. Residents enjoy the fact that Mercy Health is the singular hospital system in the immediate area. With this, you will have the opportunity to manage a very diverse population, with high acuity pathology.
